Is the website down, or just for you?

Enter an address. We fetch it at the same moment from all our monitoring locations and show what each of them sees.

How the check works

Each monitoring location requests the page itself, like a visitor: it follows up to five redirects, measures the time to the first answer and checks the certificate. It only reads the start of the page and does not pass the content on.

If all locations answer with 200, the problem is usually on your side: browser cache, your provider's DNS, a firewall or VPN. If none answers, the site is down for everyone. If only some do, a network route is the issue, or the site blocks certain countries.

Status codes in short

2xx means all good. 3xx are redirects, which we follow. 4xx means the server answers but will not deliver the page (404 not found, 403 forbidden). 5xx means the server or the application behind it has a problem (502/504 is often a proxy whose target does not answer).

FAQ

Can I have this monitored permanently?

Yes. That is exactly what our Statusbot does: it checks your sites around the clock from several locations and alerts you when something fails. The small Statusbot is free.

Do you store the addresses I check?

No. We keep the result in memory for 30 seconds so that reloading does not fetch the site again from all locations. To limit abuse we count queries per address and per target for a short time.
