Where the data comes from

Network, operator and abuse contact come from the public databases of the internet registries (RIPE NCC, ARIN, APNIC …), queried via RIPEstat. The location is an estimate from the MaxMind GeoLite database: for mobile networks, large providers and data centres it is often hundreds of kilometres off, an IP does not reveal a street address.

The AS number (autonomous system) shows who announces the network on the internet, usually the provider or data centre. The abuse contact is the right place for spam, attacks or other abuse reports.

FAQ

Can someone find my home address from my IP?

No. Publicly known is only which provider owns the network and roughly in which region it is used. Who is behind an address only the provider knows, and only discloses it on a court order.

Why does it show a completely different place?

Providers often assign addresses from networks registered to a location far away, and mobile connections run through a few central nodes. The location is therefore only a rough estimate.
